Bespoke Jewellery; Checkerboard Emerald Ring Remodel
Remodelling jewellery is one of the most exciting aspects of bespoke jewellery design—it allows us to breathe new life into old pieces, transforming them into something that feels entirely fresh and personal. I recently had the pleasure of working with a client who had accumulated a collection of jewellery over the years, from purchased treasures to inherited pieces and heartfelt gifts. While each item had sentimental value, her tastes had evolved, and some of the designs no longer suited her style—particularly a beautiful emerald cluster ring.
This emerald ring, which held so much sentimental value, wasn’t quite her style anymore. The setting was too high, making it prone to being knocked around, and the design felt outdated for her modern sensibilities. After a thoughtful consultation, we decided to transform this beloved piece into something that not only suited her current tastes but also better matched her lifestyle. The goal was simple: a sleek, low-profile design that would showcase the stunning emeralds while reflecting her love for modernist jewellery.
To start, my client showed me a few rings she had admired online, giving me a sense of the aesthetic she desired. From there, I got to work, designing a completely unique and bespoke piece that would make use of the beautiful emeralds from her old ring but in a more contemporary and wearable form. The result? A bespoke jewellery masterpiece that my client was absolutely thrilled with—a piece that not only reflected her personal style but also had deep sentimental meaning.
The final design was a stunning checkerboard pattern, with the largest emerald placed at the center, surrounded by smaller emeralds set in their own square frames. This clever arrangement created a beautiful, eye-catching effect that drew the eye from one emerald to the next, highlighting the natural beauty of each gemstone. The square grain-style settings added an extra layer of texture and depth, perfectly framing the emeralds in a way that enhanced their vibrant green hue.
By repurposing the elements of her old emerald cluster ring, we created a bespoke jewellery piece that was modern, sleek, and entirely suited to her style. Remodelling jewellery is a fantastic way to transform treasured items into something new and meaningful—capturing both the sentimentality of the past and the freshness of a new design. For my client, this bespoke jewellery piece became a perfect representation of her personality and style, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with how it turned out.
